In Mandarin, you can't just say "one book". You must use a "classifier" based on the shape or type of object.
The generic "catch-all" word. People, fruits.
For bound items (Books, journals).
For flat items (Paper, tickets, tables).
For long, thin items (Fish, roads, pants).
